Folk metal pioneers Cruachan have signed up for Despotz Records, which will release their ninth studio album in 2020.
With its roots in Dublin, Ireland, the folk metal band Cruachan has spread its Celtic-inspired heavy metal around the world since 1992. The band is the pioneer of the folk metal genre and is recognized as one of the founders of that musical genre. It is probably the one that has most attempted to expand this still largely unexplored subgenre. With a brutal but delicate mix of traditional Celtic music, pure metal and the use of Celtic mythology in the lyrics, the group has built up a huge and loyal fan base all over the world.
“We are delighted to have signed with Despotz Records and look forward to starting the next chapter of the Cruachan journey with them. We chose Despotz based on their proven experience and professionalism. Let’s drink to 2020! Sláinte! “, Say Cruachans.
“We are happy and proud to finally announce that we will work with Cruachan and their next material that will be released in 2020. The band is a true pioneer in the folk metal genre and we can’t wait to collaborate together, joining the forces of experience, impact and our genuine passion for metal music, taking part in the journey of Cruachan, “adds Ömer Akay of Despotz Records.
In 1992, three young Irish people, Keith Fay, John Fay and John Clohessy, took their love of Celtic history and mythology, mixed it with traditional Irish music and pure metal and created an entirely new genre of music. The band became famous worldwide as Cruachan and the genre was christened Folk Metal.
Cruachan have released eight hit albums from the start (such as the classic debut album “Tuatha na Gael“, “Folklore” produced by and with guest vocals the legendary Shane Macgrowan of The Pouges, and “Pagan“, whose artwork was created by the well-known artist John Howe who is best known from his illustrations of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit“) and, thanks to their unique sound coming from a mix of their Irish roots with Celtic music traditional, extreme metal and a pinch of raw energy, have become a cult band for the folk metal community.
Cruachan are known for their extraordinary live performances and stage presence and have participated in tours and festivals around the world, such as Europe, South America and Russia, to name just a few. In 2020, the band celebrates its 25th anniversary and will release a new album through Despotz Records.
